Pink ‘Funhouse’ Tour

On Saturday I went to the Pink concert with Dave. Somehow he won tickets from Kiis FM a couple months ago and I had been anticipating the concert ever since. It’s weird, I would never pay to go to a Pink concert yet I was still dying to go to the show. That’s why I was so thankful that we had won free tickets. The show was named after her cd the Funhouse and that’s is the perfect title of what you can call the Staples Center Saturday night.
We got to Staples right around 8 and parked for free a couple blocks away in a sheisty neighborhood but nonetheless it was FREE. I was most excited to see what type of person buys tickets to a Pink concert. When we arrived to Staples I got my answer. Lots of lesbians, lots of cougars and lots of tomboys. I guess that makes perfect sense. The Ting Tings opened the show and they were amazing. Lots of energy and lots of heart. The production value for their opening was 10 x’s more elaborate than what the Pussycat Dolls had when they opened for Britney. The Ting Tings have such amazing accents, it’s like that dirty cockney British accent but when they sing, it’s just pure magic. They brought the Staples Center to their feet with ‘Shut Up and Let Me Go.’ After that song, they walked off stage, only to return for an encore minutes later with ‘That’s Not My Name.’ I was most excited to hear her say ‘JOLISA!!!’ They did a grand job, I was so afraid they’d be one of those bands that’s terrible live but they proved mr wrong.
After the Ting Tings set, there was a long intermission. All together the Staples Center was about half full. I was surprised that she sold even that. I was in for a shock though.
The seats we had weren’t bad at all. I had prepared myself for the worst because I knew that they were radio promotion seats which are notorious for being the top row corner seats but they were surprisingly not that bad. We got some concessions and I must say that I’m very impressed that the Staples Center offers free refills for their large soda. If you know me then you’re well aware of my terrible drinking habit. I constantly need to keep myself hydrated…….with carbonated beverages full of sugar. As Pink was getting ready to take the stage, they began playing MJ which got the crowd going wild. I swear EVERY single concert I’ve been to since MJ’s passing has played one or more of his songs. So crazy!

Finally the lights went down and I realized that that is my absolute favorite part of any concert. The anticipation in the darkness, the unknowing of what’s next, the excitement in the air and the overall sense of hope that you carry that no matter what happened that day, no matter what you are dealing with in your life, that on e the curtain raises all of your troubles and worries will be forgotten for a mere two hours. That’s what I live for.
So the curtain dropped revealed one hell of an epic stage. It was like a funhouse nightmare including giant slides and all. A clown came running down the aisle towards a giant crank. He stops for a moments then begins to crank it. The stage in the aisle opens up and out comes Pink twirling in the air like a rag doll. It was especially crazy to see her so active because she dislocated her shoulder only a few days proior. Right away Pink shot out with non stop energy. She sang all the songs off her new album including ‘So What’ and her latest ‘Please Dont Leave Me.’ For the song ‘I Touch Myself’ Pink seductively rolled around on the couch touching herself. Soon hands began to emerge from the couch caressing all her naughty bits. It was pretty hot but it was Pink. For some reason I find her the opposite of sexy and I think it’s because she’s so anti-femininity that when she tries to be sexy, she just can’t. It was still an amazing and well executed concept. The middle portion is where the concert really slowed down and Pink just sat for am hour doing all her ballads. Dave fell asleep. I kid you not. I think I would have been more into it if I was more of a fan of her slows song took the tine to know them so I blame myself for not being into it. Things finally picked up when Pink performed ‘Funhouse.’ I had not heard the song before the concert but I immediately fell in love with it. Halfway through, giant inflatable evil clowns overtook the stage and danced along to the song. It was EPIC. After Pink performed the trapeze bit from the VMAs except she wasn’t the one flying unaccounted of her dislocated shoulder. It was still nice to see but it was the equivalent of going to see Beyonce in concert and she didn’t do the Single Ladies dance. I was looking forward to this part so badly…..ooo well. Pink made up for it but doing an absolutely amazing cover of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. There’s no song more fun to sing along to then that one. The lights came on and Pink thanked the crowd. To my amazement, I looked around to see just about EVERY seat was full. Cra6! She bowed then left the stage. We decided not to stay for the encore and instead headed out early.
After making our way down the two huge escalators, we were finally on the floor level. Just as we were about to leave ‘Get the Party Started’ came on and I ran into the nearest open door. We were now just FEET away from Pink. We found amazing seats in the second row of the section. It was surreal. Pink closed the show with one of the most amazing numbers I have ever seen. It involved a human chandalier that had Pink hanging through the inside, it spun around then was dipped into the stage, came back up and out emerged a soaking wet Pink spinning around while it rained glitter. It was ridiculously beautiful.

After the lights came on, we realized we were sitting in the same section as Adam Lambert. Got word early on that he was rude to fans so we just watched him like an animal in a zoo. Overall, I really loved the show. I regret not knowing all of Pink’s songs beforehand but the concert inspired me to want to go listen to them all. I was very surprised and impressed by how amazing the overall show was. It’s what the Circus should have been. In the lobby there was a drunken Pink drag queen that looked pretty much identical if not better than the actual Pink.

Here’s the epic ending I was referring to about. Feel free to skip to the middle to see the MAGIC.

The car was safe even though it was in a shady neighborhood. Ended the night eating a special Jewish Mew Year dinner at Jerrys Deli. I’ve become obsessed with eating there and I’m pretty sure that it has to do with Empire State of Mind and me bring obsessed with New York now haha

Lots of concerts this week. Miley Cyrus on Tuesday, Britney Speaes on Wednesday and Ciara on Saturday. Don’t ask why I’m going to any of those concerts but I am. I’m a strange stange kid with even stranger friends.
