Meeting the Cast of Fame

Not going to lie, I am NOT a fan of remakes at ALL. I don’t think many people are but I do believe that there is usually the exception the the bunch. The one film that proves that “Hey, some remakes aren’t that bad afterall.” For every Friday the 13th, there’s a Hills Have Eyes, for every Psycho there’s a King Kong. Rarely does the remake get it right and expand on the magic of the original but for some reason I have high hopes for the remake of Fame. For one the original Fame isn’t THAT good, it’s somehow grown this huge reputation for being an amazing movie but it is pretty tacky. Also, I feel like the world of theater, acting, dance and singing has taken on a new face for this generation. We live in the world of American Idol and America’s Best Dance Crew. The reality show has singlehandedly brought the concept of an audition as being one of the highest forms of entertainment. We as a country cringe while watching the terrible first few weeks of American Idol and we cry together when we see Kelly Clarkson singing “A Moment Like This” as she is thrusted into the spotlight. Auditions have grown to the point of uber-stardom. Take Susan Boyle for instance. One simple audition made her the biggest superstar in the world. We all have hopes, aspirations and dreams but rarely do we try to follow them. There is a point where most give up and begin a different chapter in their life. I for one will always maintain that hope that one day my dreams will come true. One day I will be at the very same place that I’ve envisioned since I was 5 yrs. old. It’s is this very belief that makes me such a sucker for underdog stories, I obsess over films about people with dreams and seeing them come true before my very eyes. That is why the latest trailer for the remake of Fame his an emotional chord with me.
I remember seeing the above trailer while I was with Chelsey, we both groaned when it came on. ‘What an unneccesary remake! Ughhh’ Somehow the movie not only became appealing but left both of us with tears in our eyes. I feel like the casting in the film is ideal and the director was on key with capture the magic of hope. Who knows it may just be a brilliant cut together trailer but I’m holding out a lot of hope for it. I’ve showed the trailer to many, some have hated it but some have been touched by it. I think that if the trailer let alone the film is able to inspire you even in the slightest to go out and follow your dreams then it is a success.
The one person from the film that truly stood out to me was the lead actress. Her voice is beautiful, strong and packs quite a punch. I was intrigued so I went to IMDB to see who this actress was. It was none other than Naturi Naughton. I was in shock! For those of you that don’t know, Naughton was in the surpsingly great film Notorious where she channeled Lil Kim PERFECTLY! So amazing to see that she stole the show in that film and now gets to be in Fame where she gets to showcase her talent to the world even more.

Naturi singing the films main theme!
Well with my luck, randomly Dave spotted the one and only Naturi at the premiere of Final Destination 4. We talked to her for a bit and then she said, “I want to introduce you guys to the cast of Fame.” I immediatley freaked out because the cast of a strange obsession that Chelsey and I developed just a week prior was standing rand in front of us. Everyone was so nice and genuine. We told them how excited we were to see the film and I told Naturi that I had been listening to her track on repeat over and over. After meeting them all, I’m even more excited to see the film when it comes out in a few weeks.
